Aluminium Window and Door Warranty: Standard Periods, Boundaries and How a Claim Is Assessed

A warranty is easiest to use when its boundaries are known before a problem appears. This guide sets out the standard periods that apply to aluminium windows and doors, what those periods cover, what sits outside them, and how a claim is assessed once one is raised.

Updated: 13 October 2026

Warranty terms for aluminium windows and doors are project-specific documents. The figures below are the standard periods used on RS Doors & Windows projects. They are a reference point, not a substitute for the signed Warranty issued with an order.

Publisher disclosure. This guide is published by RS Doors & Windows. It summarises the standard warranty terms used on our projects. The signed Warranty for each order takes precedence over any summary, including this one.

Quick answer

Standard periods. Powder coating ten years, aluminium frames ten years, glass three years, Australian-brand hardware seven years.

What warranty covers. Material and workmanship defects in the product.

What it does not cover. Damage from external factors, surface treatment failure caused by environmental factors, wear or colour change from normal use, and glass breakage, subject to the exact terms in the signed Warranty.

Special conditions. Coastal, high-corrosion, special-environment and custom projects have warranty conditions agreed separately, so standard periods should not be assumed for them.

How to raise a claim. Report the project address, the product location or number, a description of the issue, and photos or video. Warranty claims should in principle be raised within one week of the problem appearing.

1. The standard periods

ComponentStandard period
Powder coating10 years
Aluminium frame10 years
Glass3 years
Australian-brand hardware7 years

These are the periods used in the standard Warranty for conventional projects. Where a client requires different terms, they can be agreed for the project. For coastal, high-corrosion, special-use or other custom requirements, warranty conditions are agreed on a project basis, and the standard periods should not be assumed to apply.

2. What warranty covers

Warranty addresses the material and workmanship quality of the product. In practice that means a defect in the material, the finish or the way the product was made or assembled, rather than any problem that happens to appear on a window or door.

3. What sits outside standard warranty

The standard Warranty document sets out the boundaries explicitly. The following sit outside the standard scope, subject to the exact terms of the signed document:

  • product damage caused by external factors;
  • surface treatment failure or corrosion on aluminium or other components caused by environmental factors;
  • surface wear or colour change from normal use;
  • glass breakage, except where it results from a material or workmanship defect;
  • industry-normal colour variation in aluminium, and normal manufacturing standards and tolerances, which are not treated as product defects.

The practical consequence: not every issue on a window or door is a warranty matter. That is not a way of avoiding responsibility; it is the difference between a defect claim and a maintenance, site-condition or installation question, and the two are handled through different routes.

4. How a problem is assessed

When a problem is reported, the cause is assessed before a response is chosen. A report can fall into several categories:

  • product material or manufacturing issues;
  • hardware or product function issues;
  • installation, adjustment or site rectification issues;
  • issues caused by site environment or conditions of use.

After-sales review combines the project documents, the product records and the photos or video supplied, and a site inspection where needed, before the treatment route is decided. Possible outcomes include repair or adjustment, replacement of parts or product, installation rectification, or a further review where the issue persists after the first site visit.

5. How to raise a claim

Contact the RS Doors & Windows Australian team with four things: the project address, the product location or number, a description of the problem, and photos or video. That information allows the team to make an initial assessment before committing to a site visit.

Two conditions are worth knowing. Warranty claims should in principle be raised within one week of the problem appearing. And repairs inside the warranty are carried out by RS Doors & Windows or an authorised agent, so that the warranty position is not affected.

6. Response times

There is no single fixed response or completion time that applies to every after-sales matter. The team responds as early as it can and works with the client to resolve the issue. The actual handling time depends on the nature of the problem, how complete the information is, whether a site inspection is needed, the parts required, and site conditions on the project.

7. What to keep on file

  • the signed Warranty for the order;
  • the final quotation, including the inclusions and exclusions;
  • the confirmed drawings and product schedule;
  • the acceptance record after installation;
  • photos of the installed product, taken at handover.

These documents decide which route a problem takes: a warranty claim, a maintenance item, or an installation question. Keeping them together is the single most useful thing a buyer can do after handover.

How long is the warranty on aluminium windows and doors?

The standard periods are ten years for powder coating, ten years for aluminium frames, three years for glass, and seven years for Australian-brand hardware. The exact coverage and conditions are set out in the signed Warranty for the order.

What does the warranty cover?

Warranty covers material and workmanship defects in the product.

Is glass breakage covered?

Glass breakage is outside the standard warranty, except where it results from a material or workmanship defect.

Is surface wear or colour change covered?

Surface wear or colour change from normal use is not covered. Industry-normal colour variation in aluminium and normal manufacturing tolerances are not treated as product defects.

Do the same periods apply to coastal projects?

No. Coastal, high-corrosion, special-environment and custom projects have warranty conditions agreed separately, so standard periods should not be assumed for them.

How do I raise a warranty claim?

Contact the RS Doors & Windows Australian team with the project address, the product location or number, a description of the problem, and photos or video. Warranty claims should in principle be raised within one week of the problem appearing.

Who can carry out warranty repairs?

Repairs inside the warranty are carried out by RS Doors & Windows or an authorised agent.

Is there a fixed response time for after-sales matters?

No single fixed response or completion time applies to every matter. Handling time depends on the nature of the problem, the information available, whether a site inspection is needed, the parts required and site conditions.
